Magic can be anywhere. When twelve-year-old Janna impulsively buys a winter hat for a bag lady, she isn't expecting anything in return. But when the bag lady turns out to be a genie, her life is suddenly changed. First, that whole three wishes thing from Aladdin and all those stories -turns out that's just a story. With no limit on wishes, Janna's only concern is what to acquire next. But it turns out that wishes come with their own set of rules - and it seems that "unlimited" has some… well, limits. Turns out genies can't make something out of nothing, so everything Janna wishes for is taken from somebody else. Oops! And genies only have so much power - and Janna's been using it up fast! Suddenly, Janna is beginning to realize that someone knew what they were talking about when they said, "Be careful what you wish for!" Your tween readers will get a kick out of the Genie Scheme-it may just turn them away from asking you for decadent, gratuitous accessories, clothes, etc. Ages 8-12. 179 pp.
